FAIR Data Matters for Rare Diseases

People living with rare conditions deserve to be seen, counted and understood. Yet too many remain invisible in the data that shapes diagnosis, research and care.

The NHS adoption of the FAIR Principles Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable is a vital step towards changing this. FAIR is not only a technical standard. It is a commitment to equity, transparency and respect for every patient community.

When rare disease data is FAIR;
-It becomes findable so no group disappears in the system.
-It is accessible to the people who need it to drive change.
-It is interoperable so services can work together instead of in silos.
-It is reusable so research can move faster and families can get answers sooner.

FAIR data is a matter of justice for rare conditions. It helps ensure that every voice is heard in national planning and that no one is left behind simply because their numbers are small.
