What If the Real Barriers in Rare Disease Have Never Been Fixed?
New frameworks, strategies, and terminologies. Yet patients still wait an average of 5 to 7 years for a diagnosis.
Despite the UK Rare Diseases Framework being around for many years now, patients are still told “we don’t know” long before anyone looks harder.
The system wasn’t built with the rare in mind, it was built for the average, then patched to include everyone else. That’s not progress, it’s performance.
So here’s the question we keep coming back to: Are we actually redesigning the system, or just getting better at explaining why it’s so hard?
